1st Academy Awards

The Academy Awards were created by Louis B. Mayer to hornor the best films of 1927 and 1928 and took place on May 16, 1929.Held in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California the 1st Academy Awards ceremony was the only Academy Awards ceremony not to be broadcast on radio or television. There were only 12 categories and the winners were announced three months prior to the live event. Emil Jannings became the first person to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor Category for the films The Way of All Flesh and The Last Command.

  8. Outstanding Picture - Lucien Hubbard for Paramount Pictures (Wings)
  9. Unique and Artistic Picture - William Fox for Fox Film Corporation (Sunrise)
  10. Writing (Adaptation) - Benjamin Glazer (7th Heaven)
  11. Writing (Original Story) - Ben Hecht (Underworld)
  12. Writing (Title Writing) - Joseph Farnham
